A man sentenced to ten years in prison after extreme body transformations

A 41-year-old man has been sentenced to ten years in prison in Australia for ‘manslaughter, female genital mutilation’ and ‘grievous bodily harm caused intentionally’, reports Vice in an article relayed by Slate. Between 2015 and 2017, he would have carried out body modifications (BodMod in English) on three women, each time with serious consequences.

deadly sepsis

The “BodMod” is a practice which consists in transforming one’s body with scarifications, sub-epidermal implantations, amputations. One of the women thus died of sepsis resulting from the infection of the implant installed in her right hand.

The investigation notably made it possible to demonstrate that the man, who “was not registered as a health practitioner”, had advised him not to consult a doctor. “If she had had urgent medical advice, even at that time, she would have had a good chance of survival,” said the judge.

“Gross negligence”

Another client, whose genital lips were removed, reportedly “felt such pain that she was unable to wear underwear or use tampons” for a year. The last victim would have suffered particularly after having had a “large portion of fat” removed from his abdomen.

According to the court, the defendant’s actions were thus “subject to gross negligence”, especially since the hygiene procedures were not respected.
