The 27 member countries of the European Union (EU) reached an agreement on Wednesday to adopt sanctions against the officials responsible for the repression of the protests in Irandiplomatic sources in Brussels reported.

The agreement sealed by the EU ambassadors must be confirmed on Monday by the foreign ministers, who have a meeting in Luxembourg on the agenda
Protests erupted in Iran after the young woman’s death Mahsa Jina Amini, arrested by the morality police for an alleged violation of the strict dress code for women in the Islamic Republic.
These demonstrations, however, were vigorously repressed, and the non-governmental organization Iran Human Rights (IHR, based in Sweden) estimates that they have already left at least 108 people dead.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said on Wednesday that “It is time to punish those responsible” for the repression.
“Our message must be very clear. We must ask for the violence to stop. Women should be able to choose. And we must hold accountable those responsible for the repression of women”he pointed.

According to the German leader, “The shocking violence inflicted on the Iranian people cannot go unanswered.”
Iran has accused third countries of intervening in the protest movement, which it refers to as “unrest”, as various solidarity rallies have been organized outside the country.
According to the Iranian authorities’ investigation, Amini died from a pre-existing illness and not from the beating he received.
