If not for Ali to say it -as he identifies himself in networks- a tiktoker who suffered a stroke the same day he wanted to try the dope. According to her account in a video on her account TikTok, ate a happy brownie -also known as marijuana brownie- and ended up having a stroke that put her in a coma for five days.

A welcome party gone wrong

According to the story of the young woman on social networks, on the occasion of her move they organized a welcome party for her. Her problem was that before heading to the celebration, she decided to eat a marijuana brownies of 100 Mexican pesos (5 dollars) that generated unimaginable effects on his body.

As expected, the psychotropic biscuit did not take long to produce side effects: the next morning, the tiktoker couldn’t stop vomitingso he was forced to ask his mother to go to the pharmacy to buy him a serum to be able to recover from what, according to her, was a hangover.

The nightmare began when her mother returned to find her lying on the side of the bed with blood coming out of her mouth. It was there that, immediately, the young woman had to be sent to the hospital in an emergency. “They treated me, but it turns out that I arrived dead. They gave me electroshocks in the chest to resuscitate me.”, continued narrating Ali in front of the camera.

What are the effects of consuming a marijuana brownie?

As with any other hallucinogenic substance, the body’s response will depend, to a large extent, on the dose consumed and the route of administration.

Drowsiness, relaxation, disinhibition, excessive joy, eye redness, increased heart rate and dry mouth are just some of the symptoms that marijuana use could cause, according to the website of the National Plan on Drugs of Colombia.

In any case, some scientific studies have shown that the effects of cannabis can be much more powerful when ingested than when, for example, smoked.

“If you smoke or vape, the ratio of 11-hydroxy-THC to Delta-9-THC is quite low, and if you eat an edible it is much higher”Nick Jikones, a neuroscience doctor at Harvard Medical School and Leafly principal investigator, told Vice magazine.

The Échele Cabeza project -seeks to generate and disseminate information on psychoactive substances- also clarified on its website that “if it’s a brownie made with cannabis butter, it needs to be processed by the liver, which filters out some of the THC and converts it to 11-hydroxy-THCa metabolite that makes you feel the most powerful high”.

For its part, American Addictions Centers – a US company that provides treatment for substance use disorders – warned that elong lasting effects and unknown potency are added to the list of dangers that are run when ingesting substances of this type.

“While the effects of marijuana generally occur within a few minutes of smoking, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to experience the effects of edibles.”, clarified the entity mentioned above on its website. This means that due to the late onset and unknown potency of edibles, people may unintentionally consume excessively high amounts of THC.

When suspecting a possible overdose, it is best to be alert to symptoms such as anxiety, agitation, panic, significant increase in cardiorespiratory rate, tremors, muscle stiffness, excessive sweating, hypertension, fainting and seizures, according to Échele Cabeza. In any case, the first response should be to call or seek immediate medical attention.
