A drop of blood would solve an open crime for more than 30 years

September 1989. George and Catherine Peacock, an elderly couple, are found dead in their home in Vermont, USA. Authorities can only certify their deaths by stabbing. Although they investigate, time passes and there are no answers. Now, 33 years later, the authorities have managed to arrest a suspect thanks to a drop of blood.

Vermont police announced in a press release published this week that, finally, they arrested a suspect. Michael Anthony Louise79, was arrested at his home in Syracuse, New York, on two counts of second-degree murder, and is awaiting extradition to Vermont.

Suspected of a double crime

Michael Anthony Louise he was married to one of the Peacocks’ daughters at the time of the murders, according to the news release. Although he was singled out as a suspect just two weeks after his in-laws were killed, investigators could not establish aconclusive linkwith the murders.

But, in May 2020, DNA tests confirmed that a drop of blood found inside Louise’s car belonged to George Peacock. The blood had previously been tested, but the results were inconclusive. Advances in forensic technology allowed investigators to compare the blood to George’s. And they hit the nail on the head.
