Vehicles dragged by the current and the flooded Panamericana: multiple streams overflowed in Venezuela

Barely 16 days after the tragedy in Las Tejerías and a week after the El Castaño landslide – both in Aragua state – this Monday there are multiple overflows from streams in the Altos Mirandinos.

According to what can be seen in videos posted on social networks, a series of streams have overflowed in the Carrizal and Los Salias municipalities.

The La Veguita ravine overflowed, flooding the Pan-American Highway at the height of Oveja Negra.

In one of the most shocking videos, it is seen how the current dragged several vehicles in the Carrizal municipality.

Altos Mirandinos

The governor of the state of Miranda, Héctor Rodríguez, reported on the emergency. He verified that until approximately 5:00 pm the overflows of the Santa Isabel streams were confirmed, affecting the Montaña Alta sector; and the Yerbabuena stream, affecting the Las Rojas sector. These two communities are part of the Carrizal municipality.

Likewise, Rodríguez confirmed the overflow of the La Veguita stream, which floods the Panamericana at the height of Oveja Negra, Los Salias municipality. He added that landslides are recorded at kilometers 18 and 19 of the important road.

“Our Risk Management teams are already deployed and we are in communication with the three mayors of the region to coordinate support for the affected communities. In the event of any emergency, contact us through 0800-miranda or 911,” said the governor.

The Los Salias Mayor’s Office reported that Civil Protection officials were deployed to attend to emergencies. He asked citizens to avoid leaving their homes and clear the roads to facilitate the work.

In the same way, the Mayor’s Office of Carrizal indicated that it is attending to the emergencies generated in the municipality due to rainfall.
