Rains in Venezuela: Two children and their mother die from an avalanche in La Guaira

A woman and her two children died in the state of La Guaira (north) due to an avalanche, caused by heavy rains, which fell on their home in this coastal area of Venezuelareported this Thursday the Minister of the Interior and Justice, Remigio Ceballos.

“A landslide occurred on a house, causing the collapse and the unfortunate loss of life of a girl, a boy and their mother”, The official indicated through a telephone contact, in the early morning hours, with the state channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).

He explained that lifeguards rescued a 13-year-old boy, also a victim of this landslide, He is now being treated at a nearby hospital.

Ceballos also reported that rainfall caused the overflow of a river in the city of Guatire, near Caracas, which has affected some sectors of the state in various ways Miranda (north). In that same region, he continued, the collapse of a road was recorded, which keeps the road closed, although the situation is being addressed by the authorities.

In addition, the minister pointed out that at the El Palito refinery, located in the Carabobo state (central-north), “a fire was registered due to the impact of lightning on a fuel tank,” which was controlled by firefighters.

Venezuela has experienced intense rains in recent weeks that have left numerous landslides and floods in almost all regions, in addition to two mudslides in the center of the country that caused the death of at least 58 people.
