Maduro congratulates Lula on his victory in the elections in Brazil

The government of Venezuela congratulated former Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who won this Sunday the second round of the presidential elections in Brazil, a country with which he hopes “strengthen the bonds of friendship and advance in a bilateral cooperation agenda.

“We celebrate the victory of the Brazilian people, who on October 30 elected Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as their new president. Long live the peoples determined to be free, sovereign and independent! Today, in Brazil, democracy triumphed. Congratulations, Lula! President Nicolás Maduro expressed on his Twitter account.

For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Faría, congratulated, with “satisfaction” and on behalf of the Venezuelan people, “co-worker” Lula da Silva for “his victory today, being elected as president of Brazil”.

“A triumph that is also part of the popular struggles in Latin America!” added the foreign minister on the same social network, where several authorities, including the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, and the prosecutor, Tarek Saab, as well as governors and mayors, posted congratulatory messages to the president-elect.

In a statement, the Government wished Lula da Silva “great success in the project of giving the greatest amount of happiness to Brazil and giving back to that heroic people its history of dignity and of being a great country, being an example for the world of development and prosperity.” ”.

“With the Latin American affection that has always united us, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela offers the best disposition and good will to, together, strengthen the bonds of friendship between our peoples and renew our firm commitment in favor of a binational cooperation agenda,” added the Executive in the letter.

Lula da Silva won the second round of the presidential elections with 50.83% compared to 49.17% obtained by the current president, Jair Bolsonaro, with 98.81% of the polls counted.

The progressive leader won the first round, on October 2, with 48.4% of the valid votes, but, as he did not obtain more than half of the votes, he had to face the far-right leader today in the ballot.
