Some supporters of Jair Bolsonaro do not digest the defeat. Truck drivers and other demonstrators blocked several roads in Brazil on Monday to protest against the defeat of the incumbent president against President-elect Lula in the presidential election.

Several crossing points in the agricultural state of Mato Grosso, which voted mainly for the far-right president, were blocked in the morning “by means of burning tires and various vehicles”, such as trucks, cars or vans.

In the state of Parana, in the south-east, also predominantly Bolsonarian, the authorities indicated that they had restored traffic on at least eight crossing points. Local media report blocked roads in at least five states, including a highway linking Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, the country’s economic capital.

Jair Bolsonaro still hasn’t conceded defeat

It was not possible at this stage to know if the movement was coordinated by a particular political group or if it was spontaneous.

More than 12 hours after the official result, Jair Bolsonaro did not recognize Lula’s victory, unlike several of his government allies and many foreign heads of state.
