Magnitude 5.4 earthquake shakes the Argentine province of Mendoza

An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 on the Richter scale shook the Argentine province of Mendozain the center-west of the country and bordering Chiliwith no casualties or material damage reported so far.

According to him National Institute for Seismic Prevention (Inpres) of Argentinathe tremor occurred at 9:12 local time (12:12 GMT) and took place at a depth of 22 kilometers.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located 70 kilometers south of the capital, Mendoza, and 36 kilometers east of the town of Tunuyan.

The earthquake was classified asmoderate” by the Inpres, for which the liquids moved and the doors swung in Tunuyán and also the hanging objects swung in the provincial capital.

As a result of the earthquake, the Mendoza Civil Defense asked the population this Saturday to be “prepared” in a statement with recommendations taking into account that next week the Argentine Army together with the Chilean Army will carry out a seismic drill exercise to learn how to act and test responses.
