Macron expects US support for Ukraine to be “cross-party”

President French, Emmanuel Macronaffirmed today that he hopes that the support of USA a Ukraine in the war is “cross-party” and the commitment is maintained, regardless of the results of the legislative elections that will be held tomorrow, Tuesday.

During a press conference after his speech at the Climate Summit assembly COP27which is being held in the Egyptian city of Sharm el Seij, Macron declined to make predictions about possible scenarios after the elections, but stressed that Washington has been a very involved ally and hoped that this conviction would remain, even if there were changes in the balance of political forces.

Macron He also stated that, in order to resolve the conflict, at some point we will have to return to the dialogue table and stressed that France supports a “return to peace” that allows “preserve the principles of international law”such as the sovereignty of the Ukrainian people and the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

“For my part, I remain convinced that there will be a time when it will be necessary to return to the negotiating table (…) But I think that today the context does not allow operational statements to be made on this subject” he asserted, given the great “strain” on the ground in Ukraine.
