“He will not travel unless he tests negative. Of course I wouldn’t do that.”the White House spokeswoman, Karine Jean-Pierre, clarified this Friday during her daily press conference and at the insistence of the journalists, who demanded a response in order to plan the coverage.

The White House announced on Friday morning that the president and the first lady, Jill Bidenwill travel to the state on Monday, where dozens of people have died in recent flooding, to oversee rescue efforts and visit affected families.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and his wife will also be present at the visit.

Beshear warned earlier in the week that the death toll from torrential rains is likely to rise as rescue efforts continue, with hundreds of people still missing.

Among the deceased are several minors.

On Sunday, Beshear announced that he will mobilize new reservists from the state National Guard to help rescue Kentucky residents.

Last Thursday the governor already declared a state of emergency throughout the state and counted on the National Guard to deal with what he has described as “one of the worst and most devastating” floods of the history of the territory.

This is the second natural disaster to hit Kentucky in less than eight months after a series of tornadoes killed more than 80 people in western Kentucky in December.

Biden announced on Friday the declaration of the territory as a zone of “major disaster” to confirm the help that the federal government will give to the state government to deal with these floods, the White House said in a statement.
