On Sunday morning the flight took off from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport to Doha, an AFP journalist at the scene noted.

“History is written with the first direct flight between Tel Aviv and Doha”, declared Lior Hayat, spokesman for Israeli diplomacy, who stated that this connection was thanks to a negotiation between the Jewish state and FIFA.

Israel asked its citizens to “respect local traditions and laws in order to avoid any problems during your stay in Qatar.”

An Israeli diplomatic delegation traveled to Qatar to ensure consular services to its citizens for the duration of the World Cup.

Qatar was the first state in the Gulf to establish commercial relations with Israel in 1996, but it closed the commercial office of the Jewish State in the emirate in 2000 and relations between the two countries broke off definitively in 2009, after the Israeli military operation in Gaza.
