Switzerland dictates an eighth round of sanctions against Russia

The Swiss Federal Council (Executive) today announced a new sanctions package against Russiathe eighth dictated by the Central European country, and which once again are parallel to those recently adopted by the European Union.

Among the measures approved by the Swiss Executive is the introduction of a price cap for Russian oil and its derivatives, as well as restrictions on steel products and goods for the aerospace industry.

The Federal Council also prevents, as of today, the provision of computer, engineering, architecture or legal advice services to the Russian Government or companies in the country, and expressly prohibits being part of the administrative bodies of certain Russian state-owned companies.

In addition to these measures, Switzerland today adds 30 people and seven entities to the list of sanctioned Russian citizens and companies, bringing those affected to 1,300.

Among the new sanctions are senior officials, the military and companies that support the Russian armed forces.

The EU adopted its eighth package of measures against Russia on October 6, 2022, days after the annexation of several Ukrainian territories following a series of referendums that have not been recognized by either the Twenty-seven or Switzerland.

As a guarantee of its neutrality, Switzerland today also imposed sanctions on Ukraine, especially in the field of provision of military equipment.
