The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States said on Friday it had adopted the final rules, which also ban the sale or import of equipment from Chinese surveillance equipment maker Dahua, the video surveillance company Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology and the telecommunications firm Hytera.

The measure constitutes the most recent measure of Washington against Chinese tech giants amid fears that Beijing could use Chinese tech companies to spy on Americans.

“These new rules are an important part of our ongoing actions to protect the american people of threats to national security related to telecommunications. said the chair of the FCC, Jessica Rosenworcelit’s a statement.

Huawei declined to comment. ZTE, Dahua, Hikvision and Hytera They did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

rosenworcel sent the proposed measure, which effectively prohibits companies from selling new equipment in USAto the other three commissioners for final approval last month.

The FCC said in June 2021 that it was considering banning all equipment authorizations for all companies on the list.

This came after the March 2021 designation of five Chinese companies on a list for posing a threat to national security under a 2019 law aimed at protecting United States communications networks: Huawei, ZTE, Hytera Communications Corp Hikvision and Dahua.
