According to the source, from 05:40 local time (10:40 GMT), through the surveillance cameras of the Cotopaxi volcano, “A column of gas and water vapor emission with low ash content is observed that reaches 1.8 km above the level of the crater, in a northwesterly direction.”

This phenomenon, he notes, has been persistent within the last period of activity of the volcano that began at the end of last October.
According to the National Service for Risk and Emergency Management of Ecuador, on Saturday there was a slight fall of ash from the Cotopaxi volcano in the Quito and Mejía cantons.
The institution asked citizens to protect themselves from the ash with a mask, glasses and clothing that covers the skin, and to avoid outdoor activities.
Likewise, to avoid health effects, he asked to wash the fruits and vegetables well, and to make sure that the drinking water tanks or reservoirs are properly covered.
In the same way, he asked to avoid cleaning the volcanic ash with water since it could clog the drains and sewers, and suggested collecting it and depositing it in a plastic bag.
Last Thursday, the glacier summit of the volcano Cotopaxi It woke up partially covered in ash after the emissions of particles and gases expelled from its crater, as part of the increase in internal activity that it has been registering for a month.
The layer of gray ash on the volcano was concentrated on the eastern flank of the massif, as reported at the time by the Geophysical Institute based on surveillance cameras surrounding the volcano.

Cotopaxi’s activity has increased since the end of October, when it began to emit gases and water vapor, accompanied by ash.
The Cotopaxiwhich is located in the Andes mountain range, about 45 kilometers southeast of Quito, is the second highest peak in Ecuador with its 5,897 meters above sea level.
A hot spot has been registered in the crater that has already been detected on several occasions since 2015, when it had its last reactivation on August 14, 2015, after being relatively dormant for 138 years.
