Central African Republic accuses foreign aircraft of bombing soldiers and their Russian allies

The government of the Central African Republic said on Monday that a plane that flew in and out of the neighboring country bombed a camp of soldiers and their Russian paramilitary “allies” in the north at night. The alleged attack did damage, Bungie says.

The device “dropped explosives into the city” of Bossangoa, “targeting the base of our defense forces, our allies, as well as a cotton factory,” according to a press release from the government of that country. from the Russian private security group Wagner are fighting the insurgents. Bangui always refers to Russian paramilitaries as “allies”.

The plane “took a direction to the north”, towards Chad.

This is the first case, at least publicly announced, of an alleged attack by an enemy aircraft since at least the start of the civil war in 2013.

“These explosives caused significant property damage,” the statement said. “This plane, after committing these crimes (…), headed north (…) before crossing our borders,” the government assured. This is Chad, north of Bossangoa, a city recently captured by the rebels.
