The US does not confirm Biden’s participation in Mexico for the “three amigos” summit

The White House It remains unconfirmed whether the US president, Joe Bidenwill go to Mexico in January for the North American Leaders Summit, popularly known as the “three amigos” summit.

At a press conference, John Kirbyone of the spokesmen for the White Houserefused to confirm this Monday if Biden will attend the appointment, but said that the president “is looking forward to” having that meeting with the Mexican president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obradorand the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.

On Friday, López Obrador announced that the summit will be held in January, instead of December as initially planned, and assured that it will be attended by Biden and Trudeau.

Although the White House has refused to give details, Lopez Obrador revealed on Friday some details of the visit, such as that Biden’s plane will land at the new Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA).

This airport has been built under the Government of López Obrador and has caused controversy due to its distance from the center of Mexico City, as well as the participation of the military in its construction.

On October 18, López Obrador announced that Mexico would host the summit and already assured then that Biden and Trudeau would attend.

However, the White House already then refused to officially confirm Biden’s attendance despite continuous questions from the press.

The last Summit of North American Leaders took place in November 2021 in Washington and one of the main topics was the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC).

This trilateral summit used to be held annually, but it did not take place during the four years of Donald Trump’s government (2017-2021).
