“These exercises are a key component of the two militaries’ growing strategic cooperation in response to shared concerns in the Middle East, particularly those raised by Iran,” said the Israeli acting prime minister, Yair Lapidwho witnessed part of the drill today.

The drill serves to test “the abilities of the Israeli Air Force to collect intelligence, investigate and delineate targets, and make the intelligence available to operational forces”added a military spokesman.

The acting prime minister of Israel, Yair Lapidobserved the maneuvers from the underground control center of the Israeli Air Force, where the chief of staff, Aviv Kohaviand the one from the Air Force, Tomer Bar, showed him “various scenarios” and discussed the “Iranian threat.”

“We have partners in heaven and on earth, but we also have the right to act as we see fit and defend the State of Israel,” Lapid added.

The joint drill was agreed upon during Kohavi’s trip to the United States last week, where it was agreed to speed up joint plans for offensive actions against Iran.

In order to enhance our capabilities in the face of challenges in the region, joint activity with the US Central Command will be significantly expanded in the near future.”Kohavi said upon his return to Israel after the trip.

Israel opposes the attempts of the US president, Joe Biden, to revive a nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, which involves easing sanctions in exchange for restrictions on its atomic program; an issue that caused disagreements between the US and Israel, which have dissipated due to the failure of the negotiations and the protests in Iran.

Given this scenario, Israel continues to pressure the United States to prepare military contingency plans to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

On this issue, Biden has said that he is prepared to use military force if necessary, but prefers to exhaust diplomatic channels first.

While Iran has long maintained its program is peaceful, nonproliferation experts warn the Islamic Republic has enough 60% enriched uranium to reprocess it into fuel for at least one nuclear bomb.
