Since taking office in October, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has reaffirmed her support for kyiv and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

In her first speech before Parliament, the leader of the far-right Brothers of Italy party promised “to continue to be a reliable partner of NATO in its support for Ukraine.”

His predecessor Mario Draghi strongly supported Ukraine, but the arms deliveries split the 5 Star Movement that was in the governing coalition and led to the fall of the executive.

Parliament has 60 days to transform the decree into law.

Meloni made efforts to reassure his Western allies about Italian support for the policies of the European Union and NATO. But the close ties to Moscow of two of his coalition partners still arouse mistrust.

Matteo Salvini and his La Liga party, as well as former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, the leader of Forza Italia, have long had good relations with the Kremlin.
