“We always start by remembering our heroes who have fallen, all those who have given their lives for Ukraine”, he affirms in the video, recorded in front of the name of the city carved in concrete and painted with the blue and yellow colors of the national flag.

Unlike Russian President Vladimir Putin, Zelensky has been close to the front lines on several occasions since the invasion launched by Moscow on February 24.

Sloviansk is a symbolic city because it was occupied in 2014 for several months by Moscow-backed pro-Russian separatists before being retaken by Ukrainian forces.

The city is located 45 kilometers from Bakhmut, a city that the Russian forces have been trying to conquer since the boreal summer, without success so far.
