She came to tears. The Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, came away very moved from her visit to a mink farm where thousands of animals had just been slaughtered. Denmark, a major producer of farmed mink fur, decided earlier in November to completely cull the country’s 15 to 17 million visions.
The reason ? The discovery of a mutant strain of Covid-19 in these animals. According to some studies, explains France Info, this mutation could threaten the effectiveness of future vaccines in development.

His government widely criticized for its management of the crisis
On leaving this Kolding farm, in the western part of the country, Mette Frederiksen made a point of apologizing for her handling of the business. “I consider that there is reason to apologize for the unfolding of the facts. I have no problem saying sorry for that because mistakes have been made. The social democratic government of Denmark is widely criticized even though it has itself admitted that the legal basis for the slaughter of millions of healthy animals is not clear.
Thus, the Minister of Agriculture has already submitted his resignation a few days ago. “It is important to remember that it is not the fault of the breeders, it is the fault of the coronavirus, if the industry cannot continue,” the Prime Minister also said Thursday.
The crisis is not over since it will have to face in parliament a bill to ban mink farming until 2022. Difficult to accept in a country where this breeding is very important.
