The shocking images of violence in Paris after a protest over an attack that left 3 dead

Incidents of violence have shaken the center of Paris this Saturday, after a protest over the shooting death, on Friday, of three people of Kurdish origin.

Three other people were injured after a subject opened fire at a community center and a Kurdish restaurant.

Clashes broke out on Friday, between police and a group that had gathered at the scene after the attack.

Images showed fires in the street and some protesters breaking car windows.

Police riot unit officers responded by firing tear gas when a group tried to break through the security cordon.

A 69-year-old man suspected of firing the shots described himself as a racist who hated foreigners, a police source told the AFP news agency.

Police detained the suspect who did not resist and reportedly recovered the weapon used in the attack. Prosecutors said they had opened an investigation.

The subject, who is being questioned by the authorities, had recently been released by another attack on an immigrant camp last year.

“We were walking down the street and we heard gunshots,” a witness, Ali Dalek, told the BBC. “We turned around and we saw people running.”

“And then five or six minutes later, because we know people who work at the hair salon, we walked in and saw that a man had been arrested.”

Another witness, a shopkeeper, told AFP that she had locked herself in the premises. She noted that she had heard seven or eight bursts of gunshots.
