Venezuela reaffirms its admiration for Cuba and the revolution led by Fidel Castro

The government of Venezuela congratulated the people of Cuba and ratified his admiration for that nation, with the purpose of commemorating this Sunday the 64th anniversary of the Cuban revolution, led by Fidel Castro.

Venezuela ratifies on this date of special historical significance our admiration for Cuba, to which we are united by historical ties of brotherhood and similar challenges in defense of the self-determination of peoples against any form of foreign interference that damages independence”, expressed the Government in a statement released by the chancellor, Carlos Faria.

The text, which alluded to the victory of Castro’s forces against those of Fulgencio Batista on January 1, 1959, highlighted this movement that led the island to “the path of anti-imperialism, socialism and internationalism”.

Regarding the date, the Government also recalled the ideas of the Cuban leader Fidel Castro and the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, who were close allies, regarding the unity of Latin America.

Cuba and Venezuela have been close political and economic allies since the so-called Bolivarian revolution came to power in 1999.

Starting in the year 2000, Venezuela became the main supplier of crude oil to the Caribbean island through an agreement that grants preferential prices in exchange for medical and educational services.
