Storming of the Capitol: the companion of the murdered policeman filed a complaint against Donald trump

An associate of a Capitol cop who was killed in an attack during the January 6 uprising two years ago filed a complaint on Thursday against Donald Trump and two Trump rioters who wanted to prevent Joe Biden from getting elected. Sandra Garza has filed a “wrongful death” petition in US federal court. She accuses the former president, as well as Julian Hather and George Thanios, who attacked him, of being “directly and indirectly responsible” for the death of his associate Brian Siknik.

Constable Brian Siknik was involved in clashes at the Capitol on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. He was sprayed with pepper spray and passed out a few hours later on his way home. He died on Thursday, January 7, in the evening as a result of two cerebral vascular accidents, which the medical examiner who performed the autopsy on his body attributed to a natural cause. “Everything that happened on January 6, including the actions taken by the defendants Trump, Hater and Tanios, played a significant role in the state of health that led to the death of PC Siknik the next day,” his companion defended in his complaint.

$10 million

Already prosecuted for his part in the attempted mutiny, Hater pleaded guilty last September to assaulting police with a dangerous weapon. As part of a plea bargain struck in July, Thanios pleaded guilty to entering and being in a restricted building, and disorderly conduct or disorderly conduct in that building. An investigation by the D.C. Attorney’s Office revealed that Tanios purchased four pepper spray cans and gave them to Hater before arriving at the Capitol.

To them, as well as to Trump, Sandra Garza demands damages in the amount of $ 10 million.

During the unrest, at least three officers, including Siknik, “were unable to perform their duties for at least 20 minutes or more while recovering from the spray,” one of their colleagues said in a statement in September. He swore that the spray was “as strong, if not stronger, than any other variant of pepper spray they were exposed to during their training as law enforcement officers,” according to the transcript of his hearing.

The former Republican president did not react to this new interrogation, but after the events of two years ago, he always denied any wrongdoing, as he always downplayed the events of January 6th. The House committee investigating the January 6 attack on Capitol Hill called Trump the “primary cause” of the attack.

Without waiting for the findings of the parliamentary commission of inquiry, a special prosecutor was appointed to independently oversee investigations into Trump and his role in the attack.

192 people were sentenced to prison terms.

Two years after the attack that rocked American democracy and marked the extreme polarization of society, US President Joe Biden was scheduled to honor twelve people this Friday who “contributed in an exemplary manner to our democracy on January 6, 2021.” Presidential Citizenship Medal, one of America’s highest civilian awards. Seven police officers should receive it. Brian Siknik will receive it posthumously.

Two years after the events, more than 950 people were identified and arrested. 192 people received prison terms. US police are still looking for 350 participants, as well as a man suspected of planting roadside bombs near Congressional headquarters the day before the assault.
