France condemns executions in Iran against aspirations for freedom

France condemned this Saturday “with the greatest firmness” the execution in Iran of two prisoners allegedly involved in the murder of an agent during the protests that have shaken the country since September and insisted that this cannot be the answer “to the legitimate aspirations for freedom.”

“These disgusting executions add to many other serious and unacceptable violations of fundamental rights and freedoms committed by the Iranian authorities”highlighted in a statement the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This Saturday they were executed Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Seyed Mohammad Hosseiniconvicted of the death of a basiji – an Islamic militant – in November in the city of Karaj during the demonstrations unleashed after the death of the young woman Mahsa Amini.

France recalled its firm position against the death penalty and that it has denounced its application by the Tehran regime in reaction to the protests in recent months publicly and before the Iranian authorities.

Also that he has done it with his partners in the European Unionwith which it has adopted sanctions against “those responsible for the violent repression (…) in violation of Iran’s international commitments on human rights.”

He insisted that together with its European partners, France calls on the Iranian authorities to stop these executions and to “listen to the legitimate aspirations of the Iranian people.”
