President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and the heads of Congress and the Supreme Court of Brazil They condemned this Monday, in a joint statement, “the terrorist acts” that occurred on Sunday in Brasilia, when thousands of Bolsonarists stormed the headquarters of public powers.

“The powers of the Republic, defenders of democracy and the Constitutional Charter of 1988, reject the acts of terrorism, vandalism, criminals, and coup plotters that took place yesterday afternoon in Brasilia,” indicated in a joint letter that Lula published on their Twitter account, in which they ask Brazilian society to “maintain serenity, in defense of peace and democracy.”

“We call on society to maintain serenity, in defense of peace and democracy in our country”says the note, which in addition to Lula and the president of the Supreme Court, Rosa Weber, also signed the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, and the acting head of the Senate, Veneziano Vital do Rêgo.

The situation is under control today, after the arrest of 300 coup protesters on Sunday and another 1,200 this Monday who were taking refuge in the camp they had set up in front of the Army Headquarters since the October elections were held.

These radical groups of the extreme right are unaware of the victory at the polls of Lulawho assumed power on January 1, and have been demanding since then a military “intervention” that returns Bolsonaro to power.

The progressive president accused the now ex-governor, who is currently in the United States with no forecast of returning to Brazilto “stimulate” the assault on the three powers, which lasted about four and a half hours until the security forces regained control of the public buildings.

Bolsonaro, retired Army captain and nostalgic for the Brazilian dictatorship (1964-1985), rejected the accusations of the current head of state and he mildly disapproved of the violent invasion and serious destruction of his sympathizers in the Three Powers Square in Brasilia.
