The images caused outrage: A man sprays a woman sitting on the street with a hose. The woman is a street dweller; the man, the owner of an art gallery called Foster Gwin Gallery, located in the city of San Francisco (USA).
The video recording was made by the chef of a nearby bakery and uploaded the sad image of the man bathing the woman in water and telling her to get away.

The reaction was immediate. The video went from Tik Tok to Twitter, where it had more than 10 million views at the start of the week. The media sought out the gallery owner who tried to justify his actions and admitted that it may have been seen as harsh, but it was not his first attempt to clear the street in front of his business in other ways.
Collier Gwin, whose art gallery is located in the Jackson Square neighborhood of that city, explained to the San Francisco Chronicle, that he did throw water at the homeless woman, but before that he even tried to get her help. “I told him, ‘You have to move; I can’t clean the street; move down.”
He reported that the woman began to yell belligerent things at him, spit and yell. “At that point she was so out of control…I sprayed her with the hose.”

But the social media judgment has been unforgiving on Gwin. They label his action as “horrible” and “disgusting.” A neighboring local, who appears in the video, had to issue a statement disapproving of the event and describing the event as “inhumane.”
“I don’t care how frustrated someone is, this is not the way human beings should treat other human beings,” said the president of the Board of Supervisors for the district that includes the neighborhood where the events occurred. In addition, he called it “excessive” and “abuse.”
The gallery owner explained that on previous occasions he has called the police or assistance, to help remove people who remain on the street, that they take them away for one or two days and return.
“I fully understand, how horrible it is to do that,” Gwin agreed. But I also understand how horrible it is to leave her on the street,” he said.
