Jail for two Colombians for paying hitmen to kill prosecutor Marcelo Pecci

The Colombian brothers Andrés Felipe and Ramón Emilio Pérez Hoyos accepted their participation in the planning, financing and logistics of the assassination of the Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecifor which a judge imposed prison on them due to the risk of flight from the country, the Prosecutor’s Office reported on Monday.

The agency charged them with the crimes of aggravated homicide and aggravated manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms accessories, parts or ammunition, charges that the defendants accepted.

In addition, the entity assured that the men would be part of a transnational criminal organization that would be based in Paraguayanso it is necessary to deprive them of their freedom to avoid possible departure from the country.

According to the Prosecutor’s investigation, the two men withdrew a large sum of money that they would have used to pay the hitmen who shot the prosecutor on May 10, 2022 on a beach on Isla Barú, in Cartagena de Indias.

In addition, the investigation determined that the Pérez Hoyos brothers allegedly had several meetings, to which they attended with a gray van that was seized, with others involved in the homicide to provide them with supplies and finalize details.

The brothers were captured on Sunday in Bogotá and Rionegro, in the department of Antioquia, accused of being the ones who hired the material authors of the murder.

During the raids to capture these two people, documents, clothing, ten cell phones, four USB flash drives, a (traumatic) revolver, a hard drive, a tablet, a sound recorder, a laptop, and a van were seized.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, with these two arrests, there are seven people who have been prosecuted for this criminal action. Four of them accepted their responsibilities and were sentenced, while Correa Galeano pleaded not guilty and for that reason he is still on trial.
