Shooting in Los Angeles: at least 9 dead in a shooting during the celebrations for the Lunar New Year

Nine people were killed in a mass shooting Saturday night in a town east of The Angels following Lunar New Year celebrations that brought together thousands of people, police said on Sunday.

The event occurred in an establishment on Garvey Avenue in Monterey Parksaid county police Sgt. Bob Boese The Angels. The shooter was a man, he said.

Authorities did not provide information for several hours after dozens of police officers responded to reports of a shooting in Monterey Park, a town of about 60,000 inhabitants with a large population of Asian originis located about 16 kilometers (10 miles) from the center of Lthe angels

Seung Won Choi, owner of the Clam House seafood barbecue restaurant across the street from where the shooting took place, told the Los Angeles Times that three people had run to his business and asked him to block the door.

Those people told Choi that there was a shooter with a machine gun who was carrying several rounds of ammunition to be able to reload.. Choi said he believed the shooting took place at a nightclub.

The event occurred after 10:00 p.m., according to the newspaper.

A two-day festival began on Saturday, one of the most prominent events organized by the Lunar New Year in the south of California.
