The Argentine politician Patricia Bullrich, president of the opposition Republican Proposal party, announced this Sunday that she will present a request to the DEA, the US anti-drug agency, to arrest the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Madurowhen it arrives in Argentina in the next few days.
“Tomorrow (Monday) I will make a presentation to the DEA. So far, the Chavista leader has not confirmed his presence at the VII Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac)which will take place in Buenos Aires January 24 and in which the Argentine president, Alberto Fernandezwill be the host, since his country has the pro tempore presidency of the forum.
Bullrichwho was Minister of Security during the mandate of the center-right Mauricio Macri (2015-2019), will base its complaint on a bilateral agreement signed between Argentina and the US in 1998as indicated to Rivadavia radio.
“If an Argentine denounces that a wanted person in the US is here, the DEA offices in Argentina can operate in relation to the arrest of the person who has a request for their capture to be extradited to the US,” he claimed Bullrichsince he remembered that MAduro “is wanted for participation and being one of the leaders of the ‘Cartel de los Soles’.”
According to an investigation made in the USA, the “Cartel of the Suns” owes its name to the insignia worn on the uniforms by high-ranking Venezuelan soldiers, involved in criminal activities, among which drug trafficking stands out.
“We have put the axis in the arrest of Maduro”, Bullrich pointed out, who is a member of the main Argentine opposition coalition, Together for Change and had already requested the arrest “immediately” of the Venezuelan last Thursday.
“If Nicolás Maduro comes to Argentina, he must be immediately arrested for having committed crimes against humanity. As happened with Pinochet in London, in 1998. Justice must act to protect the universal validity of human rights”, he had expressed on Twitter.
This complaint is added to the one made last Wednesday by the Argentine Forum for Democracy in the Region (FADER) before the Argentine Justice against Maduro and his counterparts in Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, and Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, so that they may be investigated by “crimes against humanity”.
And it is added to the order so that Ripe be called for an investigation by the Argentine Justice that a lawyer made last Friday on behalf of two “victims of crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Government of Nicolás Maduro” in Venezuela.
Celac is an intergovernmental mechanism for dialogue and political agreement that was created in 2010 and is made up of the 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Among the presidents confirmed at the VII summit, in addition to the host, Alberto Fernández, are the Chilean Gabriel Boric, the Uruguayan Luis Lacalle Pou, the Bolivian Luis Arce, the Ecuadorian Guillermo Lasso, the Honduran Xiomara Castro and the Brazilian Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva , for whom it will be his first international trip in this third term.
