Cuba criticizes in CELAC the “economic suffocation” imposed by the United States

The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, charged this Tuesday, during his speech at the VII Celac Summitagainst the “economic suffocation” imposed by the United States Government, a country that in his opinion intends to “destroy” the island’s development model.

“The government of the United States insists on destroying the development model that we Cubans have sovereignly decided to build, through a cruel, illegitimate, illegal and immoral policy of economic suffocation”asserted the Cuban leader in the conclave, held at the Sheraton hotel in Buenos Aires.

In his address, Diaz-Canel criticized Washington’s decision to include Cuba on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, an “unfounded” and “unilateral” initiative that has a “severe” impact on the economic development of the island.

“I thank this Community and its Member States once again for their forceful demand that Cuba be removed from said list and the blockade be lifted”pointed out the Cuban president, who insisted that Cuba “It will not be intimidated by such attacks.”

“We are not going to betray the history of resistance, dignity and defense of social justice that turned the Cuban Revolution into an emancipating force for human beings,” stressed.

The Caribbean leader also expressed his opposition to the Organization of American States (OAS), an entity that according to him “supported and supports military interventions, coups d’état and interference in Latin America and the Caribbean against popular and legitimate governments”, all of this ” in the service of the United States.”

“Cuba has repeatedly ratified, but it goes without saying today, the support and the strongest solidarity with the legitimate governments of Venezuela, Nicaragua and Bolivia, subjected to persistent destabilization attempts,” Díaz-Canel asserted.

Calls for integration

During his speech before the rest of the Latin American and Caribbean States, Diaz-Canel called for progress towards the “economic, social and cultural integration” of the region, and considered that strengthening the celac “It constitutes an urgent need and a shared duty.”

The VII Celac Summit It is held this Tuesday in Buenos Aires with the presence of representatives of the 33 member countries, including Brazil, which rejoined the mechanism after leaving in 2020 under the Administration of Jair Bolsonaro.
