The Defense Minister of PolandMariusz Blaszczak, announced on Tuesday that the Government has submitted a request to Germany for the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
The minister assured on twitter that “the Germans have already received our request for consent for the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine”.

“I also call on the German side to join the coalition of countries that support Ukraine with tanks ‘leopard 2′. This is our common cause, because it is about the security of the whole of Europe!” she added.
This Monday the Polish Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawieckiannounced that his country would submit that request but, even without the approval of the German government, was prepared to authorize the shipment of the tanks, German-made and whose re-export to other countries Berlin has to allow.
Earlier, the German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, had declared in an interview with the French channel LCI that Germany would not block Poland’s decision to hand over its Leopard 2s to Ukraine if it received a request to do so.

According to the Polish newspaper “Wyborcza”, the countries that have such tanks had to sign a declaration in which they promised not to transfer the equipment without the consent of the manufacturer.
During his recent visit to Lviv, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that his country is willing to send to Ukraine between 10 and 14 “Leopard 2” tanks (one company) out of the total of about 240 of this type that the polish army.
In recent days Poland was one of the countries that was most determined to form a coalition of European states that are willing to donate their “Leopard 2” to the Ukrainian Army.
