Two people have been killed in a stabbing on a train in northern Germany.
According to police, a man attacked several passengers with a knife around 3 p.m. local time.
The incident happened when the train from Kiel to Hamburg was on its way to Brokstedt station.
According to initial investigations, seven people were injured, police said.
Schleswig-Holstein Interior Minister Sabine Sütterlin-Waack confirmed that two people were killed and five injured in the attack.
“It’s terrible,” she told reporters.
“We are shocked and appalled that something like this happened.”
Detectives have now arrested a suspect in connection with the attack, reports the dpa news agency.
Police have not provided information on the suspect’s identity and said his possible motives are under investigation.
The train station in Brokstedt was closed for several hours after the attack.
