The Colombian who has been in jail three times for calling himself a narco

René Martínez Gutiérrez is a Colombian 46 years old, he has been arrested three times and was about to be extradited to Peru because there is a criminal proceeding for drug trafficking against his namesake.

This man was captured for the first time in 2010, while doing some paperwork to create his own company. For this he needed his judicial past and there he realized that He had an arrest warrant from Peru.

He was deprived of his liberty by the Colombian authorities for a week, according to the testimony that his sister gave to ‘Noticias Caracol’: “My brother was directly captured with an extradition order directly requested by Peru,” he mentioned.

In 2011, this Colombian was captured again and spent two months in prison. In that year EL TIEMPO collected the testimony of his wife Yesenia Contreras who commented on what happened.

”His name and date of birth coincided with a person who was wanted for being an accomplice to a man who transported 20 kilos of cocaine embedded in a television in Peru in 2006. I almost died. Then, they gave me his wallet, his cell phone and the wedding band and they took him to the dungeons, ”he mentioned at the time.

After proving his innocence, René Martínez Gutiérrez decided to leave the country for the United States where he lived for a decade. In January 2023, he tried to return to the country to say goodbye to his father, but again the authorities arrested him.

“They did not give him the opportunity on Saturday morning when he arrived in Colombia to arrive in Colombia, on the plane they asked for his ID, Interpol entered and arrested my brother,” his sister told Noticias Caracol.

Until now, the Colombian remains deprived of his liberty. Meanwhile, his family created a Facebook group to request Martinez’s release.
