Mexico: Two Cuban Migrants Murdered in Monterrey

Two Cubans were murdered in a hotel in the Mexican state of New Lion (north), where a man who was driving an enforcement taxi in which the alleged criminals arrived at the site was arrested.

The events, which came to light this Thursday because the family of one of the victims found out about the events in Miami (United States), were registered in the colonia (neighborhood) Sarabiain the city of Monterey.

So far, the authorities have not provided the identity of the deceased, but it was confirmed that the victims are two men aged 17 and 25 who were staying at the Hotel La Silla.

People who were in one of the rooms explained to the officers that two men arrived and with firearms fired shots in room 130 and then went to number 226 to take out” another man and shoot him too, the Monterrey Police detailed in a statement.

When the uniformed officers arrived, the people no longer had vital signs and it was confirmed that they were Cuban nationals.

The agents noticed the presence of a black vehicle with SAV 480A license plates that was fleeing the site at that time.

The troops caught up with him a few blocks later and detained a man, identified as 29-year-old Jesús “R”, who declared that he was a taxi driver and that three people allegedly hired him for a service in the center of the city.

A 9-millimeter caliber cartridge and blood stains were found in the back seat of the car.

The authorities are investigating the alleged perpetrators of the double crime, while the detainee was transferred to the Monterrey Police facilities, where he was placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry and the vehicle was confiscated.

The region is experiencing a record migratory flow with 2.76 million undocumented immigrants detained at the United States border with Mexico in fiscal year 2022.
