Zelensky thanks Poland for 60 additional tanks to send to Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked this Friday for Poland’s decision to deliver some sixty additional tanks to Ukraineincluding 30 PT-91, a modern version of the Soviet T-72.

“I appreciate (…) these very important decisions to deliver to Ukraine 60 Polish tanks, including 30 PT-91, as well as 14 Leopards,” declared Zelensky on Twitter, two days after Germany and the United States authorized sending heavy tanks to kyiv.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said Thursday in an interview with Canadian television CTV News that Warsaw would send Ukraine “60 of our modernized tanks, including 30 PT-91s.”

The politician reiterated that Poland was to supply “14 Leopard 2 tanks” to Ukrainefrom the country’s reserves.

Morawiecki also recalled that since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Poland delivered “250 tanks (…) and even more than that” to kyiv. Most of the tanks are T-72, of Soviet manufacture.

The PT-91 main battle tanks are a more modern version of the T-72. The model of the other 30 tanks that will be delivered was not specified.

The United States and Germany announced Wednesday that they will send heavy tanks to Ukraine and Berlin also gave the green light for other countries to deliver German-made Leopard tanks to kyiv.
