Russian diplomacy added that the Latvian ambassador, Māris Riekstiņš, must “leave Russia within two weeks”.

Thus, the Latvian ambassador will have to leave Russia two weeks before the forecast by Foreign Affairs of Latvia.

4 days ago, Latvia made the decision to withdraw its ambassador in Moscow on February 24 and reduce the level of diplomatic relations as a show of solidarity with Estonia, whose ambassador was expelled from Russia last Monday.

The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed “a determined protest” to the Latvian representative over the Riga decision, noting that it did not accept “solidarity” with Estonia as an excuse for the decision to reduce the level of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“Solidarity between these countries only lies in total Russophobia and the desire to push hostile steps against Russia, something that is sponsored by the US and other unfriendly countries,” noted the Russian diplomatic service.

Moscow warned that “the provocative recklessness of the Latvian authorities to reduce the level of diplomatic relations may have consequences.”

“Our bilateral relations are already badly damaged by the destructive lines of the Latvian ruling leadership, including the complete purging of the Russian-speaking information space, the annihilation of Soviet cultural heritage and the criminal prosecution of our compatriots.”asserted Foreign.
