The agreement was reached after a mediation process before a military judge, while the sentence will run from his arrest on August 1, 2022 and will be conditional, subject to the payment of a bond.

Al Sadi was found guilty of activity in an illegal association, incitement and impersonation”, indicated the Army.

According to the indictment, he worked together with other suspects to further the activities of the “terrorist organization” in his student branch, among other things, receiving funding from a YIP group in the Gaza Strip, as well as calling “the continuation of the violent Palestinian struggle”.

Sadi, 61, who has been incarcerated up to seven times, is one of the founders of YIP and the organization’s leader in west bank. He was arrested in August in Jeninstronghold of Palestinian militias.

Faced with the risk of flight, the military Prosecutor’s Office requested at that time that Sadi remain detained until the end of the judicial process.

When Israeli security forces arrived to arrest him, Al Sadi posed as someone else in an attempt to evade arrest.”, reported the Army on Tuesday.

Following his arrest, the JIP announced a state of alert and Israeli forces, citing concrete indications of an imminent attack on the Gaza border, launched a series of air strikes on the Strip, which responded with rocket fire.

After nearly three days of fighting, a ceasefire was signed that reportedly included Egypt’s commitment to work for the release of Sadi and another Palestinian detainee.

The militants of the YIP -considered a terrorist by Israel, USA and the European Union– and other Palestinian groups continually confront Israeli troops when they carry out raids in the occupied West Bank.

These raids have become almost daily since the end of March last year, when Israel launched its operation “break the wave” in response to a series of deadly attacks by Palestinians or Israeli Arabs.

Since then, violence has increased in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. So far this year alone, 48 Palestinians have been killed – some of them militants or attackers but also civilians – by fire from Israeli forces, and 11 people have lost their lives on the Israeli side.

Israel took control of the West Bank and east jerusalem in 1967, and since then it has maintained an occupation of these territories considered among the longest in recent history.
