China-Russia relations are ‘rock-solid’, says Wang Yi

The relationships between China and Russia they are “solid as a rock” and will withstand any test of the current changing international situation, the head of Chinese diplomacy said today, wang yiafter a meeting with the secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev.

“Sino-Russian relations are mature and rock-solid, they will withstand the tests of this changing international situation”said the Chinese diplomat, quoted by the TASS agency.

Wang expressed his confidence that “there are good chances to continue our close strategic interaction and contacts in defense of our strategic interests.”

The representative of Chinese diplomacy highly appreciated Russia’s contribution to strengthening the strategic interaction between Moscow and Beijing and assured that China is willing to “resolutely defend” national interests and mutually beneficial cooperation “in all directions.”

“At the end of last year during the telematic meeting of our leaders, they developed the plan for the future development of bilateral relations”he remembered.

In particular, he highlighted that both countries, “As permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, they have a great responsibility for peace on our planet.”

It is expected that this Wednesday Wang, who arrived in Moscow after participating in the Munich Security Conference, will also meet with the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, with whom he will address, among other issues, the conflict in Ukraine.

China has launched a peace initiative in Ukraine and Wang himself assured two days ago in Munich that Ukraine and Moscow should start direct negotiations on peace, in order to reach a political agreement.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov indicated for his part that a meeting between Wang and Putin is not ruled out.

The visit of the head of Chinese diplomacy to the Russian capital comes as the first anniversary of the start of the Russian war campaign in Ukraine is about to be fulfilled.

Wang said on Monday that China wants to work with countries that are interested in reaching a peace deal in Ukraine and achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible.
