On the one-year anniversary of the Kremlin’s war on Ukraine, the US announced new sanctions against Russia.

President Joe Biden’s administration unveiled the sanctions on Friday when the leaders of the Group of 7 countries met virtually and pledged “unwavering support” to Ukraine and its president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“A year ago, the G7 met after Putin’s attack on Ukraine. Now Ukraine is not alone, but the global coalition in support of Ukraine is stronger than ever, anchored by the G7,” Biden tweeted. “We spoke again to renew our commitment to imposing unprecedented costs on Putin.”

The new sanctions target 200 individuals or organizations in various sectors, including finance, defense and technology.

“We continue to impose significant costs on Russia for its illegal war against Ukraine, including through additional sanctions,” US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said during a meeting with UK Treasury Secretary Jeremy Hunt.

The Biden administration also warned China and other countries not to help Russia evade sanctions.

“We will impose sanctions on other actors associated with Russia’s defense and technology industries, including those responsible for replenishing Russian stockpiles of sanctioned goods or facilitating the circumvention of Russian sanctions,” the White House said.
