Brazil offers aid to earthquake victims in Ecuador and Peru

He brazilian government announced this Sunday its willingness to offer possible help to the victims of the earthquake on Saturday that shook Ecuador and which left at least 15 dead and extensive material damage both in Ecuador and in Peru.

The Brazilian governmentaffirms its willingness to provide all possible cooperation to the authorities of the two countries to attend to the humanitarian emergency”, according to a statement released this Sunday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.

The Foreign Ministry expressed in its note the regret of the Brazilian Government for the “human and material losses resulting from the earthquake” and “their solidarity with the Governments and the Ecuadorian and Peruvian peoples”.

According to the statement, due to the magnitude, the earthquake on Saturday in Ecuador was felt in other countries in the region and caused serious damage in the northern region of Peru.

According to the latest official data, fourteen people died in Ecuador and one in Peru (a 4-year-old girl) due to the 6.5 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale that occurred around noon on Saturday in the province of Guayason the southern coast of Ecuador.

According to the Ecuadorian authorities, the earthquake left 381 injured, many of them evacuated with the support of the Army by air, as well as 90 houses affected and 44 destroyed.
