North Korea: Kim Jong Un Leads Simulated ‘Nuclear Counterattack’

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been conducting military exercises “simulating a nuclear counterattack” for two days, including the launch of a ballistic missile equipped with a “dummy nuclear warhead,” the agency said on Monday, obtained by the North Korean state-run KCNA in Seoul.

Kim expressed her “satisfaction” after training over the weekend. It was the fourth show of force by Pyongyang in a week as Seoul and Washington are holding their biggest joint military exercise in five years.

North Korea regards all such exercises as a rehearsal for an invasion of its territory and has repeatedly warned that it will respond to them in an “overwhelming” manner. “The missile was equipped with a warhead simulating a nuclear warhead,” the TsTAK said.

Second intercontinental ballistic test this year

On Thursday, Pyongyang launched its Hwaseong-17 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the most powerful in its arsenal, in the presence of leader Kim Jong-un and his daughter, and on the eve of a visit to Japan by the South Korean president. Suk Yeol.

Cold for years over a historic dispute, the two neighbors resumed exchanges at the highest level and decided to stand united against North Korea.

It was Pyongyang’s second ICBM test this year, which the KCNA said was in response to “frantic” military exercises by South Korea and the United States. The shooting itself came after the launch on Tuesday of two short-range ballistic missiles and on March 12 of two strategic cruise missiles from a submarine.
