“China is ready to firmly defend with Russia an international system based on the UN (…), to promote multipolarity in the world and the democratization of international relations”Xi said after descending the stairs of the plane that landed at Vnukovo-2 airport, local agencies reported.

Xi, whose country rejected the arrest warrant against Putin issued last Friday by the International Criminal Court (ICC), stressed that Moscow and Beijing “They are guardians of a world order based on international law.”

“During the last 10 years, bilateral relations have been strengthened and developed on the basis of non-adherence, non-confrontation and non-alignment against a third party, they have created an example of inter-state relations based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation”he stressed.

He was convinced that the visit will be “fruitful” and will promote “stable development” of strategic cooperation between the two countries, which will contribute “to the development of the world in general.”

“I hope that during the visit you can exchange views in detail on matters of bilateral relations and important regional and international issues,” stressed.

Xi is making his ninth visit to Russia, during which he will have an informal lunch in the Kremlin with his “friend” Putin today around 13:30 GMT and tomorrow from 12:00 GMT formal negotiations with the respective delegations, during which Sign important agreements.

The meeting between Xi and Putin takes place against the background of the Russian military campaign in Ukraine, in which China has maintained an ambiguous position, defending Ukrainian territorial integrity on the one hand and advocating taking into account the concerns of Russian security.

China’s peace initiative has been welcomed in Russia with nuances, because respecting territorial integrity would mean returning the occupied territories to Ukraine, while Kiev considers that the Chinese plan lacks logic and is full of contradictions, because it cannot be into account the interests of the aggressor country.

The Kremlin stressed that Moscow appreciates Beijing’s moderate stance on Ukraine, with whose leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, Xi intends to talk via video conference after his visit to Russia.
