He canadian prime ministerJustin Trudeau, announced this Friday that his country will begin to deport migrants and refugees, many from Latin Americawho cross into its territory through unofficial points of entry after having passed through USA.
Trudeau made that announcement during a joint press conference with the president of USA, Joe Bidenvisiting in Canada and after both countries reached a new immigration agreement.

“Border agents will enforce the agreement starting at midnight tonight and will deport irregular crossers to the nearest border point in USA”announced the Canadian Prime Minister.
In exchange for expediting those deportations, Canada has promised to welcome 15,000 migrants from the American continent over the next year.
The pact seeks to address concerns that have been expressed Canada about the growing number of asylum seekers, many from Latin Americawho have arrived in their territory in recent months due to the difficulty of doing so in USA due to new restrictions imposed by Biden.
Specifically, the agreement will allow Canada deport USA to those who cross the border between the two countries through crossings that are not official points of entry.

Previously, under the so-called Safe Third Country Agreement of 2004, Canada could return to USA whoever tried to enter illegally through official entry points; but he did not clarify what happened to the refugees and migrants who crossed through other points.
Thousands of migrants have used this legal loophole to enter Canadian territory through the border crossing of roxham roadbetween the Canadian province of Quebec and the US state of NY.
In 2022 alone, 40,000 people entered through that point, which provoked the anger of the Quebec government, and the opposition Conservative Party of Quebec. Canadawho asked Trudeau to close Roxham Road.
