Pope Francis asks for prayers for the migrants killed in the fire in Ciudad Juárez

He Pope Francisco asked today to pray for the migrants who died “in the tragic fire” of a train station Migration’s national institute (INM) in Juarez Cityin Mexicoduring the general audience held in the Plaza de Saint Peter.

During greetings to Spanish-speaking pilgrims, Francisco said: Let us pray for the migrants who died yesterday in a tragic fire in Ciudad Juárez, in Mexico. So that the Lord receives them in his kingdom and comforts the families. Let’s pray for them”.

According to the last balance communicated by the Mexican Government, were 38 dead migrants and 28 were injured in this fire.

The identified migrants are Colombians, Ecuadorians, Salvadorans, Guatemalans, Hondurans and Venezuelans.

Before the incident, the agents of the INM they had carried out an operation to remove migrants who beg for alms from the streets.

The presence of migrants in the area has intensified this year since the United States announced new measures, including the immediate deportation of migrants from Haiti, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba that they arrive by land under the “Title 42.”

The Mexican government has also faced criticism from organizations of human rights for accepting US policies and deploying more than 20,000 US agents Armed forces at the borders for migratory tasks.
