The US asks China not to “exaggerate” the “scale” of the president of Taiwan

USA insisted this Wednesday that the passage of the president of taiwan, Tsai Ing-wenfor New York and Los Angeles is just one “scale” of his trip to Central America and asked China do not exaggerate on this matter.

In a press conference, the deputy spokesman for the US Department of State, Vedant PatelHe replied that “all the presidents of Taiwan have made stops in the United States“and that you are standing”they are private and not official”.

“There is no reason for Beijing to overreact or turn this scale into something it is not.”, stressed the official.

The spokesman insisted that the United States does not support Taiwan independence and that it opposes “any unilateral change from the status quobetween Beijing and Taipei.

The island president will make a stopover in New York on March 30 and another in Los Angeles on April 5 as part of her trip to Central America, where she will visit belize and Guatemalatwo of the thirteen countries that still maintain diplomatic ties with Taipei.

It is speculated that during his stay in the Californian city, Tsai could meet with the president of the House of RepresentativesRepublican Kevin McCarthy.

China declared on Wednesday that any meeting between the Taiwanese leader and McCarthy would be a “serious provocation” to which Beijing would respond.

The Chinese government urged Washington to strictly comply with the principle of “one china” and not facilitate that Tsai “transit” by the United States or even communicate with US officials.

Asked about a possible meeting, Patel recalled that McCarthy is part of the Legislative powera “independent branch“of the Executive.
