Venezuelan church calls for justice for migrants killed in fire in Mexico

The Venezuelan Catholic Church expressed this Wednesday its dismay at the death of 39 migrants in a fire that broke out in an immigration station on the border Juarez Cityin Mexicoand asked “let justice be done” for these victims.

They are mostly young people whom we mourn today. We ask that justice be done for these lives immolated in the face of the indifference of those who should protect them”, expressed the Episcopal Conference of Venezuela (CEV) in a statement.

The fire occurred last Monday night at a station on the Migration’s national institute (INM) when, according to the government’s version, the migrants set fire to the mattresses in protest after receiving notification that they would be deported.
