The Venezuelan Catholic Church expressed this Wednesday its dismay at the death of 39 migrants in a fire that broke out in an immigration station on the border Juarez Cityin Mexicoand asked “let justice be done” for these victims.
“They are mostly young people whom we mourn today. We ask that justice be done for these lives immolated in the face of the indifference of those who should protect them”, expressed the Episcopal Conference of Venezuela (CEV) in a statement.

The fire occurred last Monday night at a station on the Migration’s national institute (INM) when, according to the government’s version, the migrants set fire to the mattresses in protest after receiving notification that they would be deported.
The government of the state of Chihuahua This Wednesday the number of deceased migrants rose to 39 and reported that of the 28 migrants who are in a hospital situation, only two are out of danger.
In this regard, the religious institution expressed its “solidarity and closeness” to the relatives of the deceased and injured and urged the governments involved and international organizations to “provide adequate help to survivors”.
“Only the development of timely policies, which fully consider the migratory reality and dignify life in the countries of expulsion, will be able to provide structural responses so that these painful events do not continue to be repeated.”, pointed out the CEV.
In the letter, he called for the “urgent implementation” of agreed policies that respond to “the mobility crisis as big as it is silent” who, he assured, lives Latin America.
The president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obradorassured this Wednesday that his government “does not hide anything” about the incident at the immigration station, where, at the time of the fire, almost 70 migrants from countries such as Guatemala, The Savior, Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador.
