“Lebanon absolutely rejects any military escalation emanating from its territory and the use of Lebanese territory to carry out operations that unbalance the existing stability”stated during a meeting in Beirut with the Italian Defense Minister, Guido Crosetto.

According to a statement from the presidency of the Lebanese Council of Ministers, Mikati condemned the launch this afternoon and assured that “all forces active in the south” of the country have also communicated to the Government their opposition to the attack, as well as to “any escalation”.

The leader did not specify which actors he was referring to with “all forces” present in the southern region of Lebanon, which is controlled by the Shiite group Hezbollah, so his words seem to imply that the political and armed movement would also be against what happened.

Israel attributes the attack to Palestinian militias based in the south of the neighboring country and it is unknown if they would have operated or not with the approval of the Shiite formation.

Israeli Foreign Ministry sources reported that at least 34 rockets were fired from Lebanon today, marking the largest attack since the 2006 war between Israel and hezbollah.

The attack occurs after last Wednesday the Israeli Police entered the mosque Al Aqsa of Jerusalemunleashing clashes with the Palestinian faithful present there, in a day that resulted in more than 30 Palestinians being injured and some 350 arrested.

The clashes led to a rise in tension, within which the launch of various rockets from the Gaza Strip towards Israel, among other incidents.
