A Hampshire woman, Englandsays that an eye exam helped him discover that he had a brain tumor.

Katie Dunn30, was tested at a pharmacy in February 2021. After detecting abnormalities, she was referred to Basingstoke hospital, where she was diagnosed with a large meningiomaa non-cancerous tumor that could have blinded you if left untreated.

“I feel like the vision test saved my life and sight. If it had been left on any longer, I could have lost my vision completely because it put pressure on my optic nerve.”said the British in an interview with the BBC.

Since diagnosis, Katie she had two surgeries and in December 2022 underwent a fertility preservation process before starting radiation therapy.

Recovers after successful surgery

Currently, Dunnwho works as a beautician, is still recovering from surgery she underwent to remove the tumor through her nose.

He has raised almost £3,000 for Brain Tumor Research by taking part in the charity’s annual 10,000 steps a day campaign.

“We are grateful to Katie for raising an incredible amount of funds and we wish her the best with her ongoing scans.”said Mel Tiley, a representative for the organization.

What is a meningioma?

A meningioma is a tumor that arises from the meninges, which are the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord.

The Mayo Clinic portal points out that, although it is not technically a brain tumor, it is included in this category because it can compress or press on the brain, nerves and adjacent vessels.

Most meningiomas grow very slowly, often over many years, without causing symptoms. But sometimes, its effects on nearby brain tissue, nerves, or vessels can cause severe disability.
