They find in Ecuador 1 ton of marijuana bound for Chile through Peru

More than 1 ton of dope was confiscated this Friday at the border of Ecuador with Peru when it was supposedly ready to be sent to Chilias reported by the National Police on social networks.

The drug was hidden in a house in the city of huaquillaswhere the main border crossing between Ecuador and Peru.

In that building, the agents apprehended five people who were allegedly guarding the shipment, made up of 1,152 packages, and also found 120 223-caliber bullets.

According to the Ecuadorian Police, the organization behind this shipment of marijuana was going to introduce the drug into Peru in vehicles that would cross the border through clandestine crossings.

Once in Peruanother arm of the organization would be in charge of getting the marijuana to Santiago de Chilesaid the Police, who achieved this seizure after several months of investigation and monitoring of those involved.

Ecuador is the third country in the world that seizes the most drugs, only behind Colombia and the United Statesaccording to him World Drug Report of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Since the beginning of 2023, drug seizures in Ecuador have accumulated 53 tons, a trend that is on track to exceed for the third consecutive year the 200 tons per yearas already happened in 2021 and 2022.
